Affiliate marketing can be an important channel for many businesses. If your products/services have complimentary products/services, affiliate marketing can even be considered a service to your customers. For websites that bring a lot of viewers, it can be a beneficial revenue stream for those who do little or no selling from their site. Conversely, as a business owner, you are on the other side of the table and be willing to pay affiliates to bring traffic to you. But setting up and maintaining an affiliate network can be a pain.
Pippin Williamson of Easy Digital Downloads fame, recently released a solution to this situation called AffiliateWP. AffiliateWP integrates will all major WordPress-based e-commerce systems.
As a business owner, AffiliateWP allows you to take control of your affiliate marketing. You can control who is, or isn’t, in your network, the rates you pay, the payment gateway you use, and the frequency that you pay. Setting up your network is as easy as installing the AffiliateWP plugin and tweaking the settings. The plugin sets up a dashboard page where you can view reports on referrals and payments throughout your network. Affiliates can sign up on your website and login to view their accounts. You can decide whether to automatically accept applications or manually approve every one, or somewhere in between.
If your site has the traffic but needs a source of revenue, AffiliateWP offers a way to partner with other businesses and place affiliate links on your site. Create an account and generate an affiliate link, then add that link to your site by attaching it to appropriate text or graphics. You can view your earnings, payments, and referrals in the Affiliate Area of the business’s site. The network owner determines what the policies are for you to receive payments.
The AffiliateWP plugin is needed by business owners and starts at $49/year for one site and goes up to $199/year for a developer license. Currently there is one add-on available for tiered rates, but add-ons for PayPal and logs by country are currently in the works for what’s sure to be a robust stable of additional features as the product matures. AffiliateWP is translation-ready and has good documentation and support.
If you’re looking for a way to promote your products/services through affiliate marketing, AffiliateWP just might be the solution you’re looking for.
