I have begun to construct my first ever website. I chose WordPress, I chose Responsive. Maybe I’m doing OK so far? But I couldn’t understand all the Colophons, widgets etc., I wanted a plain page to say who I was… So I found a section where I could switch all the clutter off.

So everything looks OK. But now, on a new page I want to use some of these widgets and I am worried that after spending so much time on the cleared pages, if I switch the widgets back on they will reappear and destroy the existing pages?

Please, if someone can tell me if I’ve done everything wrong? I don’t know what to do.

Sorry, I’m not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but unless you delete the widgets, they will always be there. If you want to temporarily disable a widget, just drag it to the Inactive Widgets area.

Or if you’re wanting to control where the widgets appear on a per Page/Post basis, then you might want to try one of these plugins:

    Dynamic Widgets:
    Widget Context:
    Widget Logic:
    Restrict Widgets:
    Display Widgets:

The last one is probably the easiest.
