Want New Features? Let Us Know

Posted on December 29, 2011

We have launched several amazing new features, and refined many of our options in the latest version of iFeature Pro 3, and we’re hard at work on the next release.

We have done our best to listen to customers, and support requested features. With this said, we are wondering if any of our customers have additional feature requests that weren’t included in iFeature Pro 3.0?

Feel free to leave a comment below or message us on Twitter.

We look forward to hearing from you!

In the folder where I store my Cyberchimp them files, I have a text file called “wishlist.txt” where i jot down idea that I’d like to see implemented. This is what I have at the moment.

    1. Carousel – A option to make the images slowly scroll by (if there are more than six). In the event that there are multiple images/links, this would keep the additional images from being forgotten or ignored. I use the carousel for paid adverts, so it’d be great to assure that a paid advertisement is not overlooked.

    2. Option to turn off after-footer menu (but keeping after-footer). Or better still, an option to replace the after-footer menu with custom html code. I don’t like the after-footer menu, but often like to hard-code something else (like a link to my Terms of Use or my Contact page) in that spot.

I’ll send more if I think of any.

Thanks, guys. Doing a great job!

As in the forum post, I’d like it to be a default option to be able to put a single sidebar on the left side of the theme.

I did see a request in the forums for an option for ads. There are other plugins for this of course, but having it done w/in the theme makes the site faster and makes SEO much easier, depending on what you’re trying to accomplish of course. Another thing I think would be nice to have would be an author box or something along those lines. Something along the lines as what Standard Theme uses, if you’ve taken a look at that theme.

That’s all I can think of right now. I’ll add more if I think of anything else.

    Mobile Optimization

We’re currently toying with responsive design as a possible solution for mobile optimization.

I like the idea of ads being integrated into the theme. As Sam said, there are plugins to do this, and I’m happy to use them, but I agree. Having adverts integrated would be helpful on several levels.

HOWEVER…. One of the things I love about your themes is that as flexible as they are, they are easy to use. I’ve worked with themes that were, frankly, more trouble to learn to use than they were worth, so if adding stuff like integrated advertising means making the theme more complicated, I’d say we should just stick to plugins. Even as a developer (especially as a developer?), I appreciate the elegant simplicity of CyberChimps’ designs.

        We’ll take this into consideration.

If we do implement ads we will try and do it as simply as possible, and would likely leave it off by default, or even provide a plugin to extend the functionality.

The Black & Grey color scheme is nice and clean but I’ll like to see a color change option. Green for landscaping sites, Red for flashy blog sites etc.

iFeature Pro does support other color schemes: http://cyberchimps.com/question/design-options-2/

An option to have the two-column sidebar cloned to the right-hand three column sidebar would be nice for *me*. Not sure if it’d be a widely enough used feature to justify development, but on many of my sites, I’ll use the three-column layout for default pages, and the two column layout when my page content necessitates. When I do so, I like to have the exact same content in the single sidebar as in the right-hand three-column sidebar. So, there’s another one…

Don’t mean to be hogging the thread, but I’ve been chewing on some of these things…

An option to change the content of the 404 page so that it is not over-written and sent back to default on an update. I can change it in the 404.php file, but I’d imagine those changes will be obliterated when I update, no?

    Uh, it’s me again… :-/

An option to change the hover-bkg color for the menu.

The moueover on the menu is a dead gray. This, also, can only be changed in the style sheets. The color is neutral and works fine with some color schemes, but for many of my websites I need to change this color. Again, if I change it in the stylesheet, it will overwrite on upgrade. (Or if I’m using it with Multisite, i’d need a child theme, the which I am still not sure if that will work as there were issues with child themes a few weeks ago).

Actually, it just occurred to me that this can be done in the Custom CSS field, which generally works for me (I’ve done it). DOH! Though that solution may be cumbersome to people who are not developers or are less well-versed in CSS, it is actually quiet elegant and easy to duplicate between sites. So, I guess you can scrap that request. :-/

    add social media icon
    change sidebar color (header)
    More backgrounds
    change dropdown and menubar color

(My apologies if this does not belong here, but I couldn’t help myself…)

A word to users from a website developer who uses CyberChimps themes extensively (almost exclusively):
One of the things I like best about these themes is that they are easy to use. I’ve played around with themes that took more effort to manage on the back-end then if I just coded most of the stuff they could do. Not good. I use themes because I am lazy! :-)
I guess the problem that you run into here is that the more you put little check-boxes, radio buttons, text fields and shortcuts in the back-end interface, the more cumbersome and unwieldy your code becomes, and the more complex your interface becomes. Striking the balance there is crucial. I’d rather an easy-to-work interface and a code-base that is clean and manageable, than a fancy interface that is a pain in the @$$ to navigate and becomes flaky because of all the stuff in it.

The Custom CSS field is a wonderful tool for doing some cool customizations (many of them mentioned in these wish lists) with your site. It takes a bit of effort to learn to use a bit of CSS. I’m no CSS wizard, by any stretch, but a good manual and effective use of a search engine will teach you many great tricks.

CyberChimps guys, please don’t let your theme interfaces and code-bases become top-heavy!

I thought the upgrade to Pro 3 was terrific, much more polished and the support has been great too. Bryan has helped so much that I have been able increasingly to resolve issues myself which is best all round. Of course, I still have a wishlist:

It would be great to have seasonal headers (complete with CyberChimps monkey for Christmas, New Year etc.)
How about a pop-up menu for the after-footer (mirroring the header)
A call out section on the home page
Ability to put hyperlinks in call out section
Removing the title ‘archive’ from the category posts
    More custom menus
    Thanks guys

    And another thing…

Is it possible to add Quora and ConnectMe buttons to social media icon set?

    Thanks

Saw this on another blog and thought it was a neat title layout for a post, particularly the invitation to comment so prominently:

    im posting regarding
http://cyberchimps.com/forum-topic/sidebar/#post-12878 i also have the same issue and i think having that fixed is really important, giving the user ability to show a different sidebar on the left side on certain pages or posts
